Friends of the Library

Friends of the Mary Willis Library

Residents in Wilkes County are proud of their beautiful and historic library located at the corner of Liberty and South Jefferson Streets in Washington, Georgia. The Friends have many active members whose contributions support the services of the Library. The main fundraiser for the Friends is the Willsbary Book, Plant and Bake Sale the first weekend of every May.

Proceeds from the sale benefit the children's summer reading program which serves over 1000 of the county's children as well as purchasing additional adult fiction and non- fiction books. The Friends also purchase all of the books for the children's section of the library. In addition to these purchases, the Friends also sponsor a Book Room where patrons can purchase gently used hard backs and paper backs on a variety of subjects. The friends host 3 meetings per year in February, May and October featuring speakers of local interest as well as hosting book signings for local authors. The public is invited to attend each meeting.
